The Quiet Period

As you may or may not be aware this time of year in the North East is dead for fishing.  From the end of January until around mid-April if your going out you will be scratching for fish as I call it.  Not worth even going out unless your fishing south of the Wear (which I am not...but come to think of it I may try)

To stand the most chance of fish you need darkness....which is no good for pictures!

So I will be getting out onto the shoreline over the next few months and trying to get some good shots of some local marks.  Can't guarantee I will be fishing but I will be snapping thats for certain.
Once April comes along we should have access to a boat whenever we need and so watch out for plenty of adventures around the Scottish Lochs.

In the meantime I will dig around in the old pic archives and see what fishing related shots I can dig up to keep things ticking over.

Tight lines!

Coalies at Dunstanburgh 18th August 2012

We visit Dunstanburgh at least two times per year.  Over the past few years we had been trying to narrow down the period when the half decent Pollock would be around.  We thought we had hit it right last year but turns out all we could hit were coalies.  We had a dozen or so fish in a few hours with most being at least 2lb.

Low Newton - No fish, New Camera and Awesome pics!

Well I am not long back from my Newton session with Mark.
Unfortunately the fish were biting but not cooperating and letting themselves be caught today.  As mentioned I took my F660EXR with me and am thrilled with the shots I managed to get.

Initially I was a bit annoyed that my phone seemed to be getting better shots than the EXR.  With a bit of experimentation I was able to get it to play ball. Most of the pics below are panoramas from several images stitched together in Photoshop CS6.  For more info watch this video

Low Newton Tomorrow

Heading out for a session tomorrow as mentioned in a previous post.
Was gonna fish the Amble Open but conditions aren't great and so just going to go and fish instead.  Save some cash.
Weather looks like it may be a crazy one.
Ah well....I have a suit.  Hopefully if it snows I will get some decent shots to come home with.

St Abbs and Eyemouth 12th August 2011

Loch Sunart October 2011

In 2011 I spent a few days with my parents at Laga Lodge on Loch Sunart in NW Scotland.  With boat hire included in the cost of the lodge it was the perfect trip for some fishing.  We had some good fish ith Conger to around 25lb and a 14lb Spurdog.  I took a boat load of photos but here are a few highlights.
